Hi CSS IMU-ers! I know it's been a very long time since anyone last posted anything here.

Sorry about that. Anyway, from now on, we shall use this blog as one of our platforms to keep you guys updated!

So let's begin!

What we're planning to do this term:

Welcoming Party on March 19th
Campus Mass
Way of the Cross
Weekly Praise & Worship sessions
The postponed session on why and how to make a good Confession
Fund raising
Coming up with our very own club T-shirt and badge!
Community service (home visits, awareness campaigns, etc)
Wardening services at mass
Getting together to go for mass on the Weekends, Feast days, etc (for more details on this, please email us @ css.imu@gmail.com)
As well as some other interesting things like rosary-making, bonding sessions, and maybe even a camp ;)

Also, we have an upcoming joint event with the Student Representative Council (SRC) and the other religious clubs in IMU, such as the Muslim Student Society (MSoc), the Buddhist Society, and the Christian Fellowship (CF). This event is the INTER-FAITH FORUM.

Also, I am proud to announce we are now affiliated with the NGO, Habitat for Humanity.

But basically, HFH is a great organization with branches worldwide, which deals with poverty housing. HFH is concerned with creating an awareness that there are indeed people living in such dire situations and then proceeding to give these people a HAND-UP in life and not a HAND-DOWN, (which means HFH encourages the patrons to pay for their own new homes but at a much reduced cost so as to empower them instead having them expect things, i.e "GIVE a man a fish, he will eat for a day, TEACH a man to fish, and he'll eat for a life time").

Among the projects we will do as a club is to help create an awareness for poverty housing amongst IMU students and staff. More information on this project will be posted up soon. Keep an eye out for it! If you have any ideas on this or want to participate, please do email us. The more the merrier!

The First Sunday of Advent

This week is the first sunday of Advent. And this week is when we light the first of four candles - the candle of Hope.

Hope has been a massively marketed concept these days.

And yet, sometimes we fail to understand the magnitude of this hope. Being in Malaysia, it's relatively easy to take the world for granted, to always think that the world will catch us when we fall. It is easy for us, as Catholics and Christians, to hold on to our faith, because God seems to have made it good for us. So easy for us to cling on to this image of Christ as a loving Redeemer and Savior.

Others have a different story to tell.

When senseless destruction rocks the world, when people are killed for no apparent reason, when family members are snatched away in one fell moment, well...hope does not come so easy.

But there is hope. There will always be hope. And we as Christians live with this hope in our hearts because of the knowledge that Christ died for us, and He will be coming back to save us all. And until then, He and His Father will watch over us.

"For this reason, keep alert and never give up; pray always for all God's people."

-Ephesians 5:18

So as we light the candle of Hope this Sunday, as we journey together into the first Sunday of Advent, let's all try and discover the true meaning of Christmas together. And let's all pray that we will have enough hope to share with all the people of the world that need it more than us.

The blog has been dead for some time. But it's back!

This week, as the poster says, what is coming to be an anuual event, judging by the past year or so. It's the difference between Catholic and Protestant faith.

We'll be organizing it with the Christian Fellowship, so note that there's a change in venue. It's now at SR5 (Seminar Room 5) as opposed to the previous SR2.

May 30: The truth about the Bible

This is good...I'd even go so far to say that it is necessary.
Almost the entire Christian faith is based on the Bible. Even sacred tradition is mentioned the Bible, which led to the formation of the Catholic Church and the faith as we know it today.

Isn't it scary to think that we know so little of the authenticity of this source, upon which lives are built?

The Street Ministry

Here’s our weekly bulletin for you all. Now this week we will be doing something different.

This is not to say we are going to do stuff like run around with party hats on our heads, nor are we going to go duck-paddling with the frogs in the pond near Vista Komanwel.

No, nothing of the sort. This week, we will be joining the Christian Fellowship, to attend their talk about The Street Ministry. For a brief intro, the street ministry is a volunteer organization that tends to the homeless that populate the area surrounding Chow Kit Road, one of the more notorious places in Petaling Street. Every Saturday, a team of IMU students joins these people for an hour or so, giving out food, medical aid and demonstrating their awesome CPR skills. Okay, so I lied about the last one. But seriously though, it is no joke. It is hard, gratitude-free work. And you will hear all these and more, when their administrator, I think his name is Steven, comes to educate us.

I thought I’d just say this: We aren’t joining them simply because we’ve run out of things to do. The committee thinks that this is a good idea to expose you all to the darker side of Malaysia, and how some people really go out of their way to help a person in need. For love and love alone without any ulterior motive. And anyway, it would be stupid to call the speaker to come and speak TWICE, so these are the reasons why we’re going there.

Anyway, that’s only the first part. The second part is that we will actually get to follow them to help out in the Street Ministry. Then you guys will be able to put everything you learnt on Friday into practice. If anyone’s interested, let us know. Believe me, it is a rewarding experience, and we strongly encourage everyone to join.

So, here are the details:

This is also an excellent opportunity for all of you to get to know your CF brothers and sisters, so please, by all means, go! You won’t regret it.

St John's Cathedral on Google Earth.

Our counterparts in UCSI (University College Sedaya International) have done an excellent job, complete with pictures, showing everyone where St John's Cathedral is.

St John's Cathedral, as they have mentioned, is the only Catholic cathedral in Kuala Lumpur. It's also one of the churches nearest to IMU that is fully accessible by LRT.

Hey peeps,

This is Jon here...and don't ask me why my username is jokken. It's a long story, albeit a boring one.

Thought I'd share something with you:

Yesterday (that being Friday) we had this rosary-making session, then we prayed one full rosary. Among the things we prayed for were the people of Burma and China.

So that day, after lectures, when I driving home, I heard on the news that there was a miracle rescue in China. A child had been found under the rubble of a destroyed school, 80 hours after the earthquake. Still alive.

God works in mysterious ways, and I think we all should not underestimate the power of prayer in our lives.

So let's keep praying. And here's what I think - I think God wants you to pray for everything, no matter how petty or small it may seem. So pray! And God can make this world a better place to live in.

A Month in Pictures.

So anyway, here are some of the things which we did for the previous three weeks or so.

The fourth week of April saw us praying over the articles which affected our lives today. Sometimes we forget that other people need our help, and that prayer – no matter how insignificant it may seem, changes lives. Because God can.

The first week of May was when we explored the story of Mary and Martha (the sisters of Lazarus) and how each of them had different personalities. Personally, I believe that each of us carries a bit of Mary and Martha inside of us.

And the second week of May resonated with the huge voice of Adrian Ng – the youth minister of CKK (NOT SFX. Oops) who told us – in no uncertain terms – how important and relevant the rosary is to us as Catholics.

A Letter from the Editor

Dear readers of the blog, and especially the people of the Catholic Students Society of IMU,

You know, usually I would prefer to remain anonymous when I post on the blog, but this time I think I need to let you guys know about the workings of the blog and such. You all might know this already but what the heck – publicity ma. Heh. Anyway, I’m Jon, and most of the job of updating and maintaining the blog is mine.

Why am I telling you this? Well, you may have noticed that the blog has seemed quite dead of lately and no one seems to be posting – except for Adeline, who valiantly put up the talk on the previous week’s schedule in the chatbox so that people would see. I could give you all many reasons why, but the truth is, I was slacking and no posts were put up as a result. So, instead of incriminating the whole committee, I thought I’d just write here and apologize for the inactivity.

These past few weeks, I and the rest of the committee have seen a…call it an upsurge la – of new faces and people who are willing to do the job for CSS, and this makes us really happy. There are people like Vanessa and Eugene (bearing in mind they have to sit for their GI and Hematology summatives tomorrow) and Joanne of M207, who really stepped up to respond to the call to lead the praise and worship, and many more. But I will not mention them here.

And even the people who persist in coming week after week, people who overcome differences in batches and battle absurd timing schedules to come here...it's really good to see you all.

Thank you guys. You are the people who will have to shoulder on the burden that the Church places on our shoulders in the future – and yours will be so much heavier, simply by virtue that you will be Catholics in a growing world of apathy and indifference.

No, bible study is not boring! This week, and this month, actually, we're going to focus more on the book of Sirach and the book of James...and how they relate to finding God in perseverance of trials.

IMU is really quite a stressful place, but sometimes, because there are simply so so many activities to enjoy, students don't realize how much backlogged work they have until it hits them in the face...to say nothing about the event managers themselves!

So come, and find out how you can presevere through all of this with the Word of God.

Why? An Easter Production

But isn't it a bit late? I mean, Easter's like two weeks away and counting...

Indeed that is the truth, but as they say, better late then never.

This is a combined effort with the Christian Fellowship, so don't let us down! Turn up in force and let's show the world that we are proud to be Catholic! There will be songs, two plays, a sermon by a pastor Steven Kam, and testimonials. There's no charge for admission, and it's all for you guys and the rest of IMU, so do come! How busy could you be on Tuesday night anyway? Haha.

And remember that it is supposed to be Easter in our hearts every day of our lives.

Letter From Tasmania

Hey peeps... Hope everyone is doing okay. Jeremy here by the way.

I left Malaysia 2 Saturdays ago (as some of u would know).. Settling in here has been a little rough. Tasmania doesn't get many twinning/bridging students, so the basically don't really bother that much about us. I've only gone for classes for 2 days so far since i got here.. which isn't a good record i guess... but i think with all the things to get done so that i can live properly.. it aint to bad i guess..

Went to St Joseph's church the past weekend. One thing I will say is that... the average age of the people in the church was about...... 60 i think? Not many young people go to church over here i guess... The mass here was pretty simply too.. No choir.. No singing at all actually. Was a little disappointed with that... but... I guess it was a challenge to appreciate Mass all the more. Without the music & singing... it was pretty hard for me.. wonder if you guys would find it the same...

I suppose this relates to the song, "Heart Of Worship" which some of us know why it was written. It is something to think about, really... Taking away all the music and celebrating Mass as simply as possible... Would you feel the same?

This week's NEWBEC features a summary of the four historical books - the books of

3. Ruth
4. and Samuel 1 & 2

Usually, in prayer and in Bible Study both, the more so-called 'well-known' parts of the Bible - the Gospels, the Psalms, Isaiah - these books are frequently quoted and applied in the pursuit of Christian and Catholic knowledge. It would be good, however, to read the other less-applied parts of the Bible, as every part of it is perfect and well worth your time.

CSS Retreat!

The plans for the CSS Retreat have been mostly in planning, but we are proud to announce that the retreat is back! Do come!

On a more serious note, it is really important that you, dear reader, attend this retreat...for after all, you are what the CSS is all about. Without the members, without laborers to gather in the harvest, there would be no need for the Catholic Society to exist.

In this retreat, we focus upon building bridges. Not only with God, but with His people. So let's all build bridges for Christ in this journey together.

And at RM 100, it's probably the cheapest weekend getaway! So why not?

NEWBEC - God's Gift of the Word

Starting from this week, we'll be putting up the NEWBEC newsletters in JPG/JPEG (picture) format on the blog. These are particularly good reads, because they shed some light on what it really means to be a Catholic.

What on earth is NEWBEC?

NEWBEC stands for New Way of Being Church - it's a newsletter printed by the Peninsular Malaysia Pastoral Team, and is distribuletd free in every Catholic Church. Usually a four-page newsletter, NEWBEC has one feature article from the Pastoral Team printed on the outside, and the inside contains all the activites that particular church has for the week or so, eg. announcements, people to pray for and so on.

If this is the first time you've heard of NEWBEC, give it a read! It won't take a few minutes and it will be really worth your time. And be sure to pass it on to other people who haven't read it yet.

This was some time ago, but it was important that you all read this, especially since we're starting a new year and so forth. It explores the Church's theme from 2007, Deepening our Discipleship even further, about God's Gift of the Word and how the Word is Jesus, through whom the Father communicated His great love and His plan for salvation of the whole of humanity.

IMU Inter-Religious Forum

Recently, IMU held its annual Inter-Religious Forum, and invited the religious societies to debate on the topic of ‘The Meaning of Life’. The Catholic Society was represented by Mr. Gerard Louis from HELP University College. Here’s a bit of biodata for those who might be interested.

Mr. Gerard Louis
BSc Ed (Hons) (UM), MSc (Distinction) (Guidance & Counselling) (De La Salle)

Mr. Gerard Louis has been a trained counsellor for the past 10 years. He has worked in various capacities as a Principal of a secondary school, a Program Director in a Youth Formation Center, an organizer of National and International Youth Leaders' Conference and Conventions. He is currently attached to the Center for Psychology at HELP Institute as a counsellor, lecturer and trainer.

Person Speaking: Mr. Gerard Louis (CSS). Other speakers from left to right :- The Sikhism speaker, Mr Vijaya (Buddhist Society) Mr. Nicholas Sylvester @ Muhd. Abdullah (Muslim Society), Mr Sherman Kuek (CF) and Sree (Moderator - Sem 4)

Other notable speakers included Mr. Sherman Kuek for the Christian Fellowship, Mr. Vijaya for the Buddhist Society and Mr. Abdullah for the Muslim Society. I’m terribly sorry, but the name of the speaker for Sikhism just escaped my mind – I’ll update when I remember.

Overall, the forum went quite well. The speakers bonded nicely, and there weren’t any openly hostile battles, or any of the ‘my religion is better than your religion’ propaganda. All in all, I think the speakers did their best to make the audience view religious meanings of life from each respective religion, which was the aim of the forum in the first place.

It was a shame, though, that there were no representatives for the atheists or free thinkers. There were originally plans to elect a representative, but I do not know what happened; perhaps they just decided that there was no time, or there was no one suitable enough to represent free thought as a general consensus.

There were some interesting points to ponder, especially about the concepts of abortion and suchlike – generally, everyone agreed that abortion and DNRs* were forbidden in one way or another by all major religions. The Buddhists, however, seem to have no problems with in-vitro fertilization and human cloning, and supported contraception, as they view that whether an individual gets born (or is prevented from doing so by contraception) is dependent on the karma of the parents and the unborn person. In contrast, Christianity (particularly the Roman Catholic Church – the church is very firm on this) does not condone contraception, human cloning, or in vitro fertilization, as the whole process of conception is seen to be an act of God.

At the inevitable sandwich-and-coffee session, the CF speaker, Mr. Sherman, suggested that only one speaker represent both the Catholic Students’ Society and the Christian Fellowship because “the differences between Catholic and Protestant faith are so slight that they would not show up in a forum.” Definitely something to consider for the next year.

The whole forum lasted about three hours, and everyone came away a little wiser.

Blessed Advent, guys!

It's great to see the carolling pictures, you guys are making me miss the CSS more than ever. Just like to say, make use of our small community in IMU, while you can. ;) 'Cos we dont have a prayer group here and I have to say, it's been a tough journey spiritually. So, do keep us ahem, old people in your prayers yeah.

Michelle, our past CSS IMU president for the term 2004/2005 back was just talking to me today. She was telling me to visit the site http://www.pray-as-you-go.org/, which I find very interesting. The site is run by the Jesuits and offers daily prayers audio clips that you can download and save to your mp3 players. So, why not give it a try yeah? It's perfect especially if you're always on the go. I know it did inspire me to try to pray daily.

All the best to you guys who'll be sitting for exams. May the Lord be with you, and grant you memory and understanding. All the best to the rest too, especially to Nikki, Bryan and Iggy who'll be leaving soon for Queensland. Jon and the gang, you guys have been doing a great job, especially with the keeping people in prayers bit. Reading CSS emails have been rather entertaining. ;)

On a more serious note, however, (I’m sure I don’t have to remind you all about this, but disclaimers are so cool) do bear in mind that carolling isn’t just about who can top who in singing, the snacks you may or may not get, or just the absolute coolness about racing around the Vistas, throwing caution to the wind and generally disturbing the peace on those nights.

Do it for God, and let God’s glory be shown through us by dedicating it all to Him. Let everyone know that we are Christians by the love that we show to one another and to the people we sing to. Understand that spreading the gospel isn’t just about quoting scripture; it’s about giving people an opening to see the scriptures in the first place…and that is what carols do.

I’ll just end it here with one of the psalms – I’ve always thought that it was appropriate for a Praise & Worship Ministry, and in effect, carolling as well.

1 Praise the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre,

This the last Christmas for most of us here in IMU. It has always been a tradition to have caroling every year since the year I stepped foot into IMU. I really hope that this year would be the same. Even though exams are always around the corner, we can't forget the real meaning of Christmas. Exams are tough. What better way to chill out then to go caroling. Ask anyone about caroling with the CSS and you would get the answer "Fun!'. There was once we were stuck in the lift. Haha! That was terrifying but fun!! So who is in this with me? What is the meaning of the word sabbath in the third commandment?

“Remember to keep holy the sabbath day” means, literally, to keep holy Saturday, the seventh day of the week. Faithful Jewish people today observe the Sabbath from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday.

The Sabbath has rich connections with events in the Old Testament or Hebrew Scriptures. It recalls the creation of the world. It recalls the deliverance of the Chosen People from pagan slavery in Egypt and the obligation of the liberated covenant that God made with us as we observe a day of praise and gratitude for the Lord’s saving actions. It recalls the fact that God rested on the seventh day as a model for us to imitate.

Why, then, do most Christians keep the sabbath on Sunday?

At the very beginning of the Christian era, the Church shifted this observance from Saturday to Sunday, basically for two reasons: Jesus rose on Easter Sunday, and the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles fifty days later, also a Sunday. It also sees in the celebration an understanding that Christ ushered in the new creation and fulfills the sabbath.

Who Can Receive the Eucharist?

Catholics who have received their First Sacraments, who are not conscious of grave sin, and who have fasted for at least one hour are encouraged to devoutly and frequently receive Holy Communion.

This is very important:

To respond to this invitation we must prepare ourselves for so great and so holy a moment. St. Paul urges us to examine our conscience: "Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself." Anyone conscious of a grave sin must receive the sacrament of Reconciliation before coming to communion. (CCC 1385)

Translation: taking this Sacrament with serious, unconfessed sin on the soul brings condemnation rather than salvation!

We are also required to fast for just one hour before receiving. Water and medicine do not break a fast. Catholics are obliged to receive this sacrament at least once per year, if possible during Easter (CCC 1388).

Non-Catholics are not ordinarily admitted to Holy Communion and are asked to pray that the action of the Holy Spirit will draw us closer together and begin to dispel the sad divisions which separate us (see CCC 1398-1401).

Why Can't Non-Catholics Receive Holy Communion?

Contrary to popular belief, the reason non-Catholics are asked to refrain from receiving Holy Communion is not because the Church wants anyone to feel excluded. The Church, in fact, has a certain responsibility to non-Catholics.

Because what makes us Catholic is our belief of Jesus’ True Presence in the Eucharist, it would be a disservice to allow non-Catholics to partake in this extraordinary union when they do not know or understand that which they are joining in. Why? Because they would not have been able to properly prepare themselves.

St. Justin Martyr wrote this in his apology to the emperor at Rome circa 150 AD:

We call this food Eucharist; and no one else is permitted to partake of it, except one who believes our teaching to be true….For not as common bread nor common drink do we receive these; but since Jesus Christ our Savior was made incarnate by the word of God and has both flesh and blood for our salvation, so too, as we have been taught, the food which has been made into the Eucharist by the Eucharistic prayer set down by Him, and by the change of which our blood and flesh is nourished, is both the Flesh and the Blood of that incarnated Jesus.

Circa 110, St. Ignatius of Antioch, who was a disciple of the Apostle John, wrote this concerning heretics:

They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they do not confess that the Eucharist is the Flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, Flesh which suffered for our sins and which the Father, in His goodness, raised up again.

And from St. Cyril of Jerusalem, in a catechetical lecture he gave in the middle of the fourth century, we get this:

Do not, therefore, regard the bread and wine as simply that; for they are, according to the Master’s declaration, the Body and Blood of Christ. Even though the sense suggest to you the other, let faith make you firm. Do not judge in this matter by taste, but be fully assured by the faith, not doubting that you have been deemed worthy of the Body and Blood of Christ.

Potter & Clay

Potter & Clay (P&C) is a leadership formation course that we in IMU have been invited for. Adeline (Pharm), Ben (Sem4), Serena & Jonathan (Sem2) are now attending the course in St Francis Xavier (SFX) church in PJ.

There is a similar course beginning in Chapel Kurnia Kristus (CKK - sister parish of SFX), which is to be held in Subang. So far, Adeline (Sem2), Edward (Sem1) & Xandra (Sem3) are going.

The point of all this is of course to keep you all informed of what is going on in the CSS since it is kinda hard to meet everyone face to face. Please remember them in your prayers as our brothers & sisters take another step toward Christ in service & faith.

P&C, like many other activities that we may plan or join with other societies provide opportunities for you to continuouly live out your faith. Faith for faith's sake is meaningless. There has to be action to substantiate our faith and we try our best to provide opportunities for that to happen. I'll admit that we may not be the best runned society and we have our flaws but we try as best we can.

Keeping that in mind, I urge you to reflect back on your life just a little and ask yourself if you are living out your faith or are u just "believing" and leaving it as that. Don't be afraid/reluctant/shy to come forward and answer your calling to be an active & contributing member of our community.

A community goes forward only when the community wants to take that extra step out of their comfort zones... implement changes... and humbly bears all struggles & adversity knowing that sacrifice is not optional, but essential. No man is an island.

I know i sound quite haughty & a tad pompous today but I hope you'll forgive me on that. Just try and understand the underlying message =)

What a Night!

Adrian out of his willingness came to pick us up again for mass. About 10 of us went to SFX for mass. After mass, we met up with Dr. Ignacio and went to Chuan Lee to have dinner. Superb dinner as you can see. On the way back the van's engine just suddenly died. We prayed and prayed and prayed but the engine just wouldn't start up. We took turns trying to start the van until the battery sounded like a dead horse after all that trying. Adrian had to call friends over at SFX to come and bring us home. Then all at the same time, 4 cars arrived at the site and we were brought home. This time we really owe Adrian and his friends one. We are so blessed that Adrian has always been so open and happy of sharing his Saturday evenings with us even though there might be better things for him to do. Maybe next time we should stay back for Lifeline or something instead of going out to eat somewhere else. I think that would definitely make Adrian's day and ours!

Look who came to Glasgow?

Yes, I finally met Michelle the Goose after 1.5 years of not seeing her! Isnt it nice and exciting? For the uninitiated, Michelle was/is? from M203 and she was our CSS punya president before me (2004/2005).

It was so nice lo, she was supposed to be in Glasgow for a concert/orchestra, but in the end she sold her ticket to one of my batchmates, and just stayed with me at my place, catching up, after which we headed out to town and had some late dinner at this bar/diner.

I dont feel so bad anymore, now that I jumpa Mich again. It's like having CSS around with me, so that is good enough.

Well, Hi!! It's me, the hot one. Round of applause everybody. Hihi.

Well, as it is, I dont have my internet yet. We are able to go online now pun because we're using seniors' accounts, our accounts yet to be activated.

So far everything's good. The weather is just nice. Food is great, I've been to a Japanese restaurant and a famous English tea house already, how cool is that? Haha. My godbro and his sis brought me around the other day, so I dont feel too bad and lonely. I have a new UK mobile, so just mail me or anything if u want it ya. (U guys must msg me once in a while!) The only unfortunate thing that has happened so far is the fact that I got sick, still am sick in fact. Had to run out of lab today because of a dry coughing fit. Of all times huh!

Hmm.. What else. Oh, I'm supposed to put pictures I suppose, but I've been having bad hair days! I did my hair just before I left and the guy go and cut my fringe a tad too short. Reminds me of Michiebun's coconut hair. =b Maybe when my internet is up ye.

For the record, I dont think Glasgow is dirty pun. Scary got lah, majority of the buildings are gothic. I looked up at the top of the buildings half-expecting to see gargoyles. Seriously! Oh, the view from my window is overlooking another block of flats. I looked out of a window one morning to menghirup udara segar and lo and behold, I saw someone's naked bum in one of thewindows of the opposite building. Eek!

Eunice, Diana and I went to St Mungo's church last week for mass. It's a small church, but the people were most welcming. They talked to us after mass. The priests there are Passionists, never heard of that order before until last wkd. Might be going to another church where the priests are Jesuits next week, see how its like. I miss FR Simon.

Ok Im done blabbing for now. I must check on my rice, see? I'm cooking. I refuse to eat microwave food!

Yes Iggy, I finally got my internet connection. So you wanted to see photos.. this is one we took at George Square this morning. We're doing well but getting food is a problem so we have to cook everyday. Classes are starting tomorrow (Monday) sigh. We've been going out everyday since we arrived here. Glaswegians love shopping but sad to say it's not a very clean city here. It's something like KL with rubbish here and there on the streets. It's summertime now and we've been getting the sun everyday so it's about 18-20 degrees but it is much colder at night. I'm waking up early every morning cos it gets bright at 4 am and it only gets dark at 10 or 11 at night. Not complaining though cos we won't see much of daylight during the winter *sob*.

So, where shall I start?

Just a post to let you guys know that I'm well and alive. *grin* I just realised yesterday that I only have two weeks left. Two weeks then I will have to leave. Sigh!!!

I havent even started packing. I should get it done by tomorrow or today actually, since I have to bake for Gawai (Ibans celebrate this harvest festival remember?) on Wednesday n Thursday. Friday I'll be flying off to Jogjakarta to visit my younger sister, who's studying medicine at the Gadjah Mada Uni there. From Jogja, I'll be going back straight to my longhouse (yes, a real longhouse). I'm only going back to my own home on the 2nd of June, just to get my stuff, and fly off to KL the next day. So, yeah, I'll be in KL 3rd to 5th June. My flight to Heathrow is at 5.30pm on the 5th.

My classes will be starting on the 11th of June. Sob.. No time to settle down or anything. From what I heard from my seniors, the schedule is pretty bad. Looks like I'm in for a scary final year. And I dread the homesickness that's going to come. But then again, I'm thrilled by the amount of shopping that's coming my way. Books and CD's n clothes are pretty cheap if I dont convert. I've got a feeling that I'll go crazy buying books there. *Drools*

I'm getting lazier. I've been an absolute bum. 10 hours of sleep everyday is now the norm. When I do wake up, you'll find me in front of the pc; youtubing, watching csi, playing on www.runescape.com. Sheesh. I need to get a life. Do something productive or something. Hmm..

When God Doesn't Make Sense Part 1
In 1961, Dr. Carlson had joined a relief agency to serve as a medical missionary in the Belgian Congo. It was only a 6-months commitment, but what he saw there changed his life. He could not forget the hopeless people when he returned to his hometown in California. He said to his colleague, "What you saw there would make you unable to swallow a thing." So, he moved his family to Africa and set up a makeshift clinic. His salary drop to $3230 per year, but money didn't matter.

However, 2 years later, he became a pawn in a bloody confrontation between rival revolutionary factions in Belgian Congo. He was among a small band of Americans held captive near the battle zone. They had one fleeing opportunity to escape by climbing up a wall and drpping to safety on the other side. Dr Carlson reached the top of the barrier and was seconds away from safety when a burst of bullets tore through his body. He fell back. He died.....

That humanitarian commitment cost Dr Carlson his life. Unfair, eh?

That left us to ask, "O Lord, why didn't You have distracted the gunner for another instant?" Even some sweat in his eyes could have prevented a good man's death.............

For times in our lives, we face many agonizing tests and incidents, happening to ourselves or to the people close to us. And we always ask the same questions, "WHY ME!!!???", "What have I done to deserve this from the Lord???", "The Lord doesn't like me and He is trying to punish me and send me to hell when I die.."

We expect the Lord to explain His motives behind all the painful incidents. We try to understand the Lord's intention of letting us suffer. Some vulnerable people start to fall, start to blame the Lord, start to fall into Satan's temptation which always come when they are on their weakest point. Don't we act the same too when we questioned,cursed and blamed the Lord, knowingly or unknowingly?

Maybe we are getting used to a seculiar mind---God loves you and offers a wonderful plan to your life. This statement is certainly true. However it also implies that a believer will always comprehend "the wonderful plan" and that he will approve of it. That may not be true.

In his book Letters to a Young Doctor, Dr Richards said that most of us are protected by an invisible membrane that shields us from horror. We walk in and through it everyday but are hardly aware of it. Then, one day it happens. Without any warning, the membrane tears and terror strikes a person's life...

So, some may ask, "Is our heavenly Father unconcerned about his vulnerable children?" It is almost insane to write such nonsense. Every description given to us in the Bible depicts God as infinitely loving and kind, tenderly watching ang guiding the steps of the faithful. You want proof? How about the great love that led Him to send His only Son as a sacrifice for our sin?

We seem to be struggling with circumstances that don't make sense. We may find it frustrating when things happen that seem illogical and inconsistent with what we learnt from the Bible. Then, if the Lord does not rescue us from those circumstances, some will feel abandoned, and soon his spirit begins to wither. It is logical to think: "If God is all-powerful, why would He let such a terrible thing happen to me? He must hate me."

Hi guys. Just wanna voice out a concern about internet privacy (blogs, chatting, friendster, facebook, etc). Yesterday I registered for tagged.com and I accidentally send to everyone in my email address book and it really did send an invitation to all my address book including my parents. So they also opened it up and joined it. After much scrutiny they emailed me and reminded me about internet privacy and how easily it would be for someone to just take your photo and use it against you. It is not a very large probability and also these things might not happen at all. But think of it, there IS a small chance that this might happen and a few simple steps might make a lot of difference in the way we view the net. Who knows in the future you might be some hot shot or become really famous and they might use your old photos to do something bad to you. I am just saying... Since everyone who is invited gets promoted to "admin" status. You can add your friends who are in the CSS by following the steps below:

Log in into the blog.
Click on "Customize" on the top right.
Click on "Settings" on the top left.
Click in "Permissions" on the top middle of the page.
Scroll down and click on "Add Authors".
Type in the emails of the people that you want to invite to join the blog. For example, aaron@gmail.com, bryan@gmail.com, etc.
Click "Invite".
Done.

Hi everyone. I was thinking about how we could inform each other better, briefer, and more interactively no matter which part of the world we are in when we run through our every day lives. Well... The power of the internet has made it all possible and I would like to see whether by running this blog we would be able to get to know one another better and keep in touch by just posting something up on the blog instead of emailing or sending mails etc. With the blog, you can upload pictures, audio, and even movies so that every CSS member would be able to see what's happening to you. Let us say that you are in the UK and you want to tell all the CSS members at BJ what you have been up to. You can blog it on this page and we can comment on it and we can also forward people to this blog so that the information need not be written twice. Well... Hope this pilot project works though. Do lend a helping hand and give us some comments ya!
